Colts rejected two picks for Taylor
ESPN reporter Stephen Holder says Indianapolis received a second and fifth round selection for the running back but turned them down.

The Indianapolis Colts turned down a package containing a second and fifth round draft pick for running back Jonathan Taylor almost two weeks before the trade deadline. ESPN Colts reporter Stephen Holder provided that information to JMV on The Ride with JMV. The team declined the offer even though the NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Holder stated that he believes a deal will eventually be reached. He argued that the team must move on from its best asset because it lacks sufficient draft capital. “Unless you’re an idiot, you have to trade him,” Holder said. He noted that the Colts are currently engaged in active talks with other teams. The reporter suggested the potential buyer might not be the team most fans expect.
Despite his prediction, Holder said no agreement is currently in place. He told JMV he would not read too much into a sideline exchange between players during the Colts’ 42-7 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. “Everything that I know indicates that there is not a deal in place,” he said. “There’s nothing imminent.”
Holder suggested that a late first-round pick could still be part of the final package. He acknowledged that some might find that valuation high, but he maintained that only one team needs to agree to the terms. “All it takes is one team,” he said.
The reporter also discussed the decision-making process within the organization. He described the position of interim general manager Ed Dodds as difficult. Dodds is managing the roster while owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon seeks a permanent general manager. Holder said it is unclear who is currently advising the owner on major moves.
“Ed Dodds has no expectation of being back here next year,” Holder said. He characterized the situation as Dodds being asked to dismantle the roster for his successor. Holder previously noted that the compensation received for DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson was reasonable, though he admitted that top offers rarely arrive so late in the season.
The Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars again soon, but the trade deadline remains the primary focus for roster changes. Holder and JMV also discussed quarterback Daniel Jones and head coach Shane Steichen on the same broadcast. The show is available on the YouTube channel for 107.5 The Fan.
