Airbnb intends to launch an artificial intelligence travel agent in the first six months of 2027. The company outlined this timeline and technical approach in a shareholder letter released on November 6. The tool will allow users to plan and book trips directly within the Airbnb platform.

The system will combine trip exploration, group decision-making, and booking into a single workflow. Airbnb stated that the agent will draw from a library of hundreds of interface elements designed for travel. These components include maps, photographs, comparison tools, calendars, and itineraries.

Rather than relying on a standard chat window, the agent will assemble visual and planning tools in real time. The interface adapts based on the specific question a user asks. Airbnb argued that this dynamic presentation is better suited to the complexity of trip planning than a text-only exchange.

Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky first mentioned the 2027 release at the Skift Global Forum. He described the upcoming interface as richer than a typical chatbot. The shareholder letter provides specific details on how the system will function and confirms the expected rollout window.

The company distinguished travel planning from simpler tasks that AI agents already handle, such as restaurant reservations and appointment scheduling. Airbnb claimed its existing infrastructure gives it an edge in this area. It cited its experience connecting hosts with guests and its role in current reservations as key advantages.

The letter also noted that AI is affecting the company beyond this guest-facing feature. Airbnb said the technology has altered its product development processes and daily operations. The company expressed strong enthusiasm about the impact AI will have on its business model.
