The cast of the 2002 romantic comedy 'Brown Sugar' is making headlines again as stars Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, and Queen Latifah continue active careers in Hollywood. The film, set against the backdrop of the early 2000s hip-hop scene, remains a fan favorite for its blend of music and romance. More than two decades later, the actors have diversified their work across major television series, blockbuster films, and independent projects.

Taye Diggs, who played music executive Andre Ellis, has maintained a steady presence on television. He spent several seasons as Coach Billy Baker on the CW series 'All American.' In 2023, he starred in the BET+ miniseries 'Love & Murder: Atlanta Playboy.' Diggs has also reunited with his 'The Best Man' castmates for new content and launched a business venture called Sable Bourbon with those collaborators.

Sanaa Lathan, who portrayed hip-hop journalist Sidney Shaw, recently earned an Emmy nomination for her role as Lisa Arthur in HBO's 'Succession.' She directed the 2022 drama 'On the Come Up,' marking her feature directorial debut. Her film credits include 'Alien vs. Predator' and 'Nappily Ever After,' while her television work spans series like 'The Affair' and 'Shots Fired.'

Queen Latifah, known for playing the loyal cousin Francine, won a 2025 NAACP Image Award for her role as Detective Robyn McCall in 'The Equalizer.' She has also starred in the television series 'Star' and the film 'Girls Trip.' Her career spans acting, producing, and musical performance, keeping her visible across multiple entertainment platforms.

Supporting cast members have also found new audiences. Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, is working on a collaborative music project titled 'Forensics' with producer The Alchemist. He released snippets of the work in 2025 and has shared live performances through his Substack project. Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe, who played Dre and Kelby Dawson respectively, remain active in television. Kodjoe appears in medical dramas such as 'Station 19' and 'Code Black,' while Parker has acted in 'Empire' and 'And Just Like That..' The two are married in real life, having tied the knot in Germany in 2005. Wendell Pierce, who played Simon, was cast as journalist Perry White in the 2025 film 'Superman,' joining a roster that includes 'The Wire' and 'Suits.'

The film's original release in 2002 captured a specific moment in hip-hop culture. Its stars have since transitioned from the indie romantic comedy genre to prestige television and major franchises. The cast's ongoing success demonstrates the lasting impact of their early 2000s collaboration on their individual trajectories.
