Davido and Martell launched a Limited Edition Afrobeats collection on Wednesday, October 28, at Bathhouse Studios in New York City. The release marks a new creative partnership for the Nigerian singer, integrating his musical roots with the cognac brand’s identity. The project was developed in collaboration with visual artist Prince Gyasi, who serves as a Martell creative partner.
The event, held in a venue decorated in blue, was hosted by Adesope “Shopsydoo” Olajide, a Nigerian-born UK media personality. The program featured a fireside chat where Davido and Gyasi discussed the cultural implications of the collaboration with Olajide. DJ Ecool performed in the booth, playing music past the designated curfew time.
Davido described the physical design of the bottle in a statement to the press. “As soon as you look at the bottle, I feel like it’s very captivating,” he said. He noted that the design features gold, red, and blue elements, which he identified as both Martell colors and African cultural colors. The bottle makes its directorial debut in the music video for Davido’s track “Already Falling.”
The guest list included figures from fashion, music, and entertainment. Among those in attendance were designer Christian Louboutin, rapper Joey Bada$$, actor Tristan Wilds, stylist Ty Hunter, and artist Young Paris. The source also noted the presence of Vashtie, described as a “collab queen,” and other tastemakers from the creative sectors.
The Afrobeats Limited Edition bottle is available for purchase immediately. It can be bought online or at select retail locations. The brand recommends serving the spirit neat, on ice, or as an ingredient in long drinks and cocktails.
The collection represents a specific branch of the Afrobeats genre, which the source notes is derived from the blended sounds of the West African diaspora. The partnership aims to leverage this collaborative nature to connect the product with its musical origins.
