Residents of Fayette County gained new information in a long-dormant homicide case on Tuesday. Indiana State Police announced the identity of a man whose remains were discovered in a shallow grave more than three decades ago. The identification concludes the search for the victim's name but leaves key questions about the circumstances of his death unanswered.

The case originated on May 1, 1990. Mushroom hunters found human remains near the intersection of County Road 50 West and County Road 650 South. For 36 years, officials could not determine who the man was. Recent advances in DNA technology allowed the team to solve the mystery. The University of Indianapolis Anthropology Department and professional genealogists assisted the investigation in reaching this identification.

The victim was Jay Robert Williamson Bell. He was born in 1945 and had connections to both Fayette County and Connersville. Police now have specific targets in their follow-up investigation. They are seeking Bell's two sons to gather details that may explain how he died.

The two men are Jay Robert Williamson Jr., born in 1970, and Jason Allan Williamson, born in 1974. Investigators stated they have been unable to locate either son or any relatives who might possess knowledge of the family history. The police force is asking for public assistance in locating these individuals.

Sergeant Scott Jarvis of the Indiana State Police is leading the inquiry. He is the designated contact for anyone who knows the location of the sons or has other information regarding the case. Residents can reach the investigation team at 765-778-2121.
