Chaka Khan has stated that she never dated Prince because he did not meet her height requirement.

The R&B singer clarified the reason during a recent interview, explaining her preference for taller partners with a specific joke.

“I like to climb trees,” she said. “In other words, she likes her men tall.”

Khan and Prince knew each other for decades. She has previously pushed back against media speculation that the two were romantically involved.

Instead, she described Prince as a trusted friend, mentor, and a protective big-brother figure. Their relationship extended beyond professional collaboration to include personal support.

Khan credited Prince with encouraging her to seek treatment for substance abuse during difficult personal moments. He helped her navigate those challenges while maintaining a close personal bond.

The pair's creative partnership resulted in the 1984 single “I Feel for You.” Prince wrote the song, which became one of Khan's biggest hits.

The track helped introduce Khan to a wider audience. It remains a defining record of the 1980s.

Khan and Prince worked together as artists who shared mutual admiration. Their history includes both personal loyalty and musical success.

The singer's recent comments add a new layer to the public understanding of their relationship. She emphasized that their bond was built on friendship, creativity, and genuine concern for each other's well-being.

Prince was one of the most recognized entertainers in music history. Despite his status, Khan said his physical height kept him out of the running for a romantic relationship with her.

Their connection has been a subject of interest for years. Khan's explanation provides a direct answer to questions about why the two never became a couple.
