A woman is fighting for her life following a serious two-vehicle collision on the southwest side of Anderson. The crash occurred just before 6 a.m. Monday near the intersection of West 53rd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, close to the Birdie Shots location.

Anderson Police Department officers responded to the scene to find one vehicle stopped at a traffic signal while traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A second vehicle, also moving south, struck the stopped car from behind.

The woman, who was a passenger in the rear-ended vehicle, was initially transported to a local hospital. She was then airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment, according to police. The driver of the stopped vehicle suffered minor injuries and was released after being treated on scene. The driver of the second vehicle sustained no injuries.

Because of the severity of the crash, the Anderson Police Department's crash team assumed control of the investigation. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. Police reported no signs of impairment were observed at the scene.

The investigation remains active. Police stated they will release additional information as it becomes available.
