Grant County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed that a woman died in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 9 north of Marion Tuesday night. The collision occurred at 8:35 p.m. on State Road 9/North Huntington Road, a rural stretch of highway located between East Bocock Road and East County Road 450 North. The site is approximately one mile north of the city limits of Marion, which sits about 80 minutes northeast of downtown Indianapolis.

Deputies arrived to find the driver of a 2019 Volkswagen deceased at the scene. The release did not specify the model of the car or name the woman. A 2017 Ford F-250 was also involved in the accident. Both the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were treated for injuries and subsequently released.

The sheriff’s traffic reconstruction team is currently analyzing the crash. Preliminary findings suggest the Volkswagen was traveling southbound while the Ford was traveling northbound when the vehicles collided. The news release did not list potential causes for the impact, such as weather conditions or driver error.

Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey is working to formally identify the deceased woman and notify her next of kin. Sheriff Del Garcia sent condolences to the family and friends of the victim. He also offered support to the other driver, witnesses, and the various emergency crews that responded to the scene.

Multiple agencies assisted at the crash site, including the Van Buren Police Department, Marion Health medics, the Washington Township Fire Department, and the Van Buren Township Fire Department. The sheriff’s office issued the full details in a news release on Wednesday, the day after the accident.
