Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has rushed for 587 yards and scored eight touchdowns in seven games this season. The 27-year-old addressed trade rumors surrounding his position on Thursday, two weeks after the team underwent major personnel changes.
The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard and traded guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers. Taylor acknowledged the impact of those moves on the locker room, calling his former teammates the gold standard of the league.
“Quenton, Buck, those guys are the gold standard of the NFL and obviously the business side of things, that’s where it sucks,” Taylor said. “I wish some way, somehow, I could have done more because I wanted to win for those guys.”
Taylor stated that he remains proud to represent the franchise, despite the uncertainty of his future. He noted that the team is currently riding a three-game losing streak following a 2-5 start to the season.
“I’m always proud to wear the Horseshoe, proud to be here,” Taylor said. “Hopefully, that day may not come. But I can’t control that. Only thing I can control is rallying these guys in the locker room.”
The Colts prepare to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, November 1. Jacksonville holds a 4-2 record and is viewed as a strong contender in the division. Taylor emphasized the need to stay focused on the immediate task rather than external speculation.
“Backs are against the wall,” Taylor said. “Everyone’s against us. Everyone has something negative to say, but as of now, we’re right here in the moment. We got to go down there and we got to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.”
The NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m.
