Georgia Democrats captured four major offices during Tuesday's midterm elections. Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected governor, making her the first Black woman to hold the post and the first Democrat to win it in more than 20 years. Incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Osoff retained his seat after defeating Republican Rep. Mike Collins. The party also won the races for attorney general and secretary of state, along with control of the state house.

Stacey Abrams, the founder of Fair Fight Action, played a central role in these results. She ran for governor in 2018 and 2022. Her organization focused on combating voter suppression across the state. Abrams told NPR's Michel Martin that the recent victories create a specific opening for change. "Now that Georgia has won Democratic victories for governor, attorney general, secretary of state and in the state house," Abrams said, "those wins provide us an opportunity to start correcting and restoring rights that we've seen lost across the South for more than 20 years."

Abrams said the effort extended beyond party rebuilding. She described the process as restoring public trust, a task that requires time. She noted that each election cycle and the periods between them have involved continuing that effort. Abrams expressed gratitude that the work to combat voter suppression led to this outcome. She said the results signal that consistency and conversation pay dividends.

The election results were confirmed on November 3, 2026. Bottoms will assume office following the standard transition period. Osoff will continue serving his term in Washington, D.C. The new state leadership team will begin organizing in Atlanta this winter. No specific legislative agenda has been announced yet for the incoming governor.

Abrams said she remains focused on the next steps in Georgia politics. She plans to continue monitoring voter access issues in the state. The Fair Fight Action group will hold its next public meeting in December. The new governor has not yet named her cabinet team.
