Indiana drivers will avoid a price increase at the pump through the first week of next year after Gov. Mike Braun signed executive orders extending the current tax break. The new orders take effect on Nov. 5 and keep the state gasoline excise and gasoline usage taxes suspended until Dec. 4.
The relief applies to all 92 counties in the state. The initial suspension began in April as part of a statewide energy emergency declared on Aug. 7. Braun said the extension is designed to help residents and agricultural workers manage rising transportation costs.
“Affordability is my top priority, and I’m using every tool available to help Hoosier families and farmers save money at the pump,” Braun said in a statement released with the orders.
A second executive order addresses specific needs for farmers and timber harvesters. It continues the suspension of certain fuel restrictions, allowing these groups to use dyed diesel in qualifying highway vehicles used for agricultural and timber harvesting operations.
The governor’s office stated that the state will use existing reserves to reimburse local units of government for the lost revenue. This funding strategy is intended to ensure the Indiana Department of Transportation can continue its fiscal year 2027 projects and maintenance work without interruption.
The latest orders extend the relief for a 30 day period. The previous suspension was set to expire at the end of October.
