Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced the selection on Monday night. The performance is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Jay-Z will step into the role of featured performer. He has previously served in a production capacity. His company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to help produce the league's entertainment presentations. This deal marks his first time leading the show as the main artist.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he asked Jay-Z to perform whenever the moment felt right. Jay-Z said the announcement completes a journey that started with his 1996 debut album, Reasonable Doubt. He described the milestone as a dream come true after 30 years of music and work.
The rapper recently finished a concert run celebrating the 30th anniversary of that album. The tour included sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium, London and Paris. He concluded the run over the weekend at SoFi Stadium, the same venue where he will now perform for the Super Bowl. Guests at those concerts included Beyonce, Rihanna, Eminem, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Too $hort.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy Awards and received 89 nominations. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and founded Roc Nation in 2008. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Roc Nation will executive produce the halftime show, with Hamish Hamilton serving as director.
