An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer faces preliminary charges after officers found him trying to park a marked police vehicle at a west side apartment complex early Tuesday. IMPD identified him as Ofc. Chaise Watkins.
Officers responded to the Stadium Lofts complex in the 1500 block of Stadium Way near 16th and North Harding streets just after midnight on a report of trouble with a person. They located Watkins in the parking area. IMPD said officers observed signs of intoxication during their interaction with him and notified a supervisor, who responded to the scene.
IMPD Special Investigations and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated detectives arrived to investigate. Watkins was taken to a hospital for a blood draw. He was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person, and an OVWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or higher, which IMPD noted is more than twice the legal limit.
IMPD said Watkins has been placed on administrative leave without police powers. Prosecutors will make the final charging decisions.
