Municipalities across central Indiana have published specific time windows for residents to collect candy on Halloween, with most communities designating a two to three hour block in the early evening. The schedules, compiled by WISH-TV, cover 37 towns and cities in the region and serve as a guide for families planning their routes for the evening of October 31.
Several major communities, including Indianapolis, Avon, Cicero, and Lebanon, have set their trick-or-treat hours to run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Other locations, such as Anderson and Carmel, will host trick-or-treaters from 5:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Brownsburg and Kokomo allow for the longest window, welcoming children from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Some smaller communities have adjusted their schedules to accommodate local events or traffic patterns. Tipton is the only listed location extending its trick-or-treat hours across two days, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on both October 30 and October 31. Other towns, including Beech Grove, Danville, and Zionsville, have opted for a 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. timeframe.
Beyond the standard door-to-door activity, local parks departments, libraries, and community groups have scheduled special events leading up to and including Halloween evening. These gatherings provide alternative venues for children and families to participate in holiday activities, often featuring themed entertainment and organized candy distribution.
Earlier in the month, Forest Park in Noblesville hosted a Halloween event at Shelter 5 on October 23. In Zionsville, the Elm Street Green held a Trick or Trees event on October 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. Avon’s Washington Township Parks and Recreation Department hosted Ghosts & Goblins on October 24, while Whitestown residents participated in a trail event at Anson Acres Park.
On October 30, the Muncie Children’s Museum held a Halloween Extravaganza from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. In Fishers, the Hamilton East Public Library hosted a Halloween Spooktacular from 10 a.m. to noon. These daytime and early evening events allow families to celebrate the holiday before the main trick-or-treating hours begin in the late afternoon.
On Halloween evening, October 31, several Indianapolis locations offer organized trick-or-treating alternatives. The Indiana State Fairgrounds will host a Safe Night Halloween event at the Blue Ribbon Pavilion from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Indianapolis Police Department’s Southeast District is holding a safe trick-or-treat at 1150 S. Shelby St. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Other evening events include a dog party at the Hamilton Town Center Dog Park in Noblesville from noon to 3 p.m. and a trick-or-treat event at the Indy Reads bookstore in Indianapolis from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Indianapolis Fire Department will accept trick-or-treaters at all its fire stations from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., while the Hershyville Training Village will host its event at 901 N. Post Rd. during the same hours.
