The NFL regular season is approaching its midpoint, and the betting markets are shifting as early favorites stumble. The Chicago Bears have emerged as a primary challenger after defeating the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.

This road win over the reigning champions caused a sharp drop in Chicago's championship odds. The Bears moved from 14-1 to 12-1 immediately after acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons last week. They are now listed at +950, behind only the San Francisco 49ers at +580 and the Buffalo Bills at +600.

Christian Cipollini, a senior manager at BetMGM, noted that the Bears attracted the most capital in the Super Bowl market during the past week. He described the team as a loser for the sportsbook on the futures market, indicating heavy betting volume against Chicago.

Other teams are also gaining ground on the odds board. The Jacksonville Jaguars sit tied with Chicago at +950, having jumped from 12-1 week-over-week after starting the season at 30-1. The Cincinnati Bengals also improved, moving from 16-1 to 14-1 and posting -170 odds to win the AFC North.

The rise of these contenders comes as many preseason heavyweights underperform. ESPN Research reports that the top seven title favorites entering the season are a combined 25-28. Only the Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs are currently above a .500 winning percentage among that group.
