A new television drama titled 215 is in development to tell the story of Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff during their early years in Philadelphia. The project is being produced by Smith's Westbrook Studios and is currently the first production under a new funding partnership with investment firm The Malar Group. Smith is listed as an executive producer for the series.

The story will be set in the late 1980s. It will follow a young rapper and his DJ partner, born Jeffrey Townes, as they attempt to build a career in the music industry. The show is named 215, which is the area code for Philadelphia.

The narrative will cover the duo's path from local teenagers to national hip-hop stars. It will focus on their circle of friends and their efforts to achieve musical success. The series will not only cover their hit records but also the internal dynamics of their partnership.

The plot will address the challenges that came with early fame. It will examine record label politics and the pressures that threatened their friendship. The show will also touch on their loyalty to their hometown during a time when their influence was growing.

This project follows the conclusion of Bel-Air, a dramatic reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which ended after four seasons. The new series aims to revisit a defining era in hip-hop history before Smith transitioned into Hollywood film and television stardom.

The production is still in its early stages. No network or streaming platform has been announced to carry the series. The roles of young Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff have not yet been cast, and the actors who will portray them remain a mystery.

The series will explore how the two men from Philadelphia helped introduce hip-hop to a wider audience. Their music, including tracks like Parents Just Don't Understand and Summertime, played a major role in their crossover success. The show will depict their journey before Smith became a global superstar and while he was still the Fresh Prince working alongside his DJ partner.
