Lady London stated that her 2020 Range Rover had fewer than 45,000 miles on the odometer when the vehicle caught fire. The rapper is currently seeking an explanation from the automaker regarding the incident.
Footage shared on Instagram shows thick black smoke and flames rising from the SUV. Photos included in the same post display the charred exterior and visible damage to the back seats. London noted that the car had no collision history and that she had kept up with all regular servicing.
The vehicle was the first luxury car London owned. She purchased it new with 13 miles on the odometer and paid it off in full. This car replaced a Nissan Sentra she had previously driven. London described the purchase as tangible proof of her hard work and said she had planned to keep the SUV indefinitely.
London described the fire as a traumatizing event. She wrote on social media that her sister suffered burns to her face. “My sister’s face, burned. Thankful for life. Devastated at loss,” she posted. She tagged Range Rover in the update and asked others who had experienced similar incidents to share their stories.
Lady London, born Zaire Stewart, grew up in the Bronx and East Orange, New Jersey. She studied sports medicine and chemistry at Howard University before attending graduate school at the University of Southern California. A video of her reciting poetry gained viral attention, helping her build a following in hip-hop through her weekly “Lady Londays” freestyles.
She released the mixtape Lady Like: The Boss Tape in 2022. In 2023, she signed with High Standardz/Def Jam and released S.O.U.L. (Signs of Universal Love). That same year, she appeared on the remix of Ciara’s “Da Girls” with Lola Brooke. She also starred in the Tubi docuseries Always, Lady London.
The cause of the fire remains unclear. Some commenters on social media questioned the length of the caption dedicated to the vehicle’s history. One user said the opening line made them think London had lost her sister. Others defended her choice to detail the SUV’s low mileage and service record to explain her surprise at the malfunction.
