A 60-year-old Crown Point man is held in the Lake County Jail facing five felony counts after investigators executed a search warrant at his home Tuesday.

The case traces to multiple cyber tips the U.S. Secret Service received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about activity on Google accounts. Investigators tied those accounts to a residence and devices belonging to John Smolinski, 60, of Crown Point. The matter was later transferred to Indiana State Police for further investigation.

State police said investigators served the warrant at Smolinski's home in the 9100 block of Lee Place on Tuesday and seized multiple electronic devices during the search. The Indiana State Police Digital Forensics Unit will examine them.

Smolinski was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on three counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, a Level 4 felony, and two counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, a Level 6 felony, according to police.

The Lake County Prosecutor's Office may determine whether to file additional charges after the device examinations are complete.
