Hasan Piker, a California-based political streamer, called on Democrats to develop a clear and resilient party platform following Tuesday's midterm election results.

Piker, known online as HasanAbi, streams political commentary to an audience of 3.1 million followers on Twitch. He is 35 years old and describes his viewers as more radical than the average political audience. The streamer is particularly popular among young men who hold far-left or socialist beliefs.

He watched the election night coverage from his computer chair. In an interview Morning Edition, Piker described the night as chaotic. He stated, "We were libbing out, to say the least."

Piker has maintained a close association with Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan. The two campaigned together during the primary elections. Piker noted that his connections to various political candidates have sparked controversy.

He credited every part of the Democratic coalition for their role on election day. This included his streaming audience, independent voters, swing voters, and suburban residents. Piker pointed to the election results as evidence of complete party unity.

With Democrats set to control Congress, Piker said the party should investigate the Trump administration. He wants lawmakers to unearth corruption and bring accountability to the White House. He stressed the need for policies that reflect voter concerns.

Piker said the party needs a resilient platform that is easily identifiable. He specified that key policy agenda items must focus on the material realities of voters.

In his conversation with Michel Martin, Piker also discussed how he encourages civic engagement. He shared his critiques of President Trump's performance in the White House and expressed hope for the future of the American government.
