Gov. Mike Braun allocated $109.9 million in state matching funds to 346 Indiana cities, towns, and counties on Wednesday.

The Office of the Governor announced the distribution at the 43rd Annual Indiana MPO-IARC Conference in Kokomo. The funds are part of the INDOT Community Crossings Matching Grants program. Local governments submitted applications for these projects during a call for projects in September for fiscal year 2027.

Braun stated that local officials are investing alongside the state to improve road safety and support local businesses. He noted that this partnership creates opportunities for community growth. "What makes Community Crossings work is that local governments have skin in the game," Braun said. "They’re investing alongside the state to get these projects done, making roads safer, supporting local businesses and creating more opportunities for communities across Indiana to grow."

The governor’s office confirmed that the funding comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant funds. INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist said in a release that more than $2 billion in matching funds have been awarded for local road improvements since 2016. Quist added, "Community Crossings is a testament to the strong partnerships between INDOT and local communities that help provide safe, efficient transportation infrastructure for our cities, towns and counties."

Newton County received the largest share of the funding at $1 million. Three towns in Indiana will each receive more than $800,000. Ashley in northeastern Indiana, Poseyville in southwestern Indiana, and Walton in north-central Indiana are among the top recipients. A full list of communities receiving matching funds is available through the governor’s office.

Braun emphasized that good roads and bridges are essential to strong communities and a growing economy. He said the funding ensures hundreds of Indiana communities have the resources to make improvements that Hoosiers will see and use every day.
