Indiana will distribute $109.9 million in state matching grants to 346 cities, towns and counties for local road and bridge work.

Gov. Mike Braun announced the awards Wednesday at the 43rd annual Indiana MPO-IARC Conference in Kokomo. Communities applied for the funding in September as part of the fiscal year 2027 grant cycle. Local governments must contribute matching funds toward their projects.

The Community Crossings Matching Grant program carries an annual cap of $100 million and limits each local government to $1 million per state fiscal year. The Indiana Department of Transportation says it has exceeded the annual cap in each of the past two fiscal years because of cost savings. Since 2016, the program has awarded more than $2 billion in matching grants.

Braun said the funding reaches communities across the state. "Good roads and bridges are essential to strong communities and a growing economy," Braun said. "This funding ensures hundreds of Indiana communities have the necessary resources to make improvements that Hoosiers will see and use every day."

INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist said the program reflects cooperation between the agency and local governments. "Community Crossings is a testament to the strong partnerships between INDOT and local communities that help provide safe, efficient transportation infrastructure for our cities, towns and counties," Quist said. A list of communities receiving funding is available through the Indiana Community Crossings program.
