Brennan averages 60 points per game in district play, a statistical edge that sets the stage for Friday night's showdown at Farris Stadium in San Antonio. The Bears and Harlan Hawks both enter the Week 11 matchup with perfect 7-0 records in District 29-6A. The winner will claim the district championship as the UIL high school football regular season concludes.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This winner-take-all contest pits two undefeated programs against each other for the first time this season. Both teams have dominated their respective schedules, leading to a single-game determination of the local title.
Brennan’s offense has been the primary driver of its success, scoring 420 points while allowing only three total touchdowns against district opponents. The Bears lost just once during the year, falling in overtime to Vandegrift in Week 1. That early setback appears to have hardened the roster for the remainder of the schedule.
Harlan holds the current district title and defeated Brennan during the previous season. Coach Matthew McKinney noted that the championship has effectively rotated between these two schools for the last six or seven years. He expects the game to draw a large crowd from across San Antonio given the stakes.
Brennan head coach Stephen Basore acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead. He joked that media members often hope for close games, but coaches generally prefer large leads. However, Basore admitted this contest will likely be tight. “Something tells me this one’s going to be a nail-biter,” he said.
Players on both sides emphasized preparation and execution. Brennan senior running back Jaycen Pullins credited the defense for limiting opponent scoring, which boosts the confidence of the offensive unit. Harlan junior wide receiver Jordan Sneed stated that the team with better execution will secure the victory. “Whoever executes more is going to go out there and get the win,” Sneed said.
KSAT 12 will broadcast extended coverage of the game on its Nightbeat segment. The stream will begin at 10:35 p.m. on KSAT Plus and KSAT.com. The result will determine which team enters the playoff bracket as the district’s top-ranked program.
