Seminole County voters in Georgia now see a different result in the State House District 154 race after a memory card was found containing unprocessed election data. The discovery adds 388 ballots to the total, reversing the lead in the closely contested district.
The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office identified the discrepancy during a post-election check. The agency found that approximately 388 more voters were recorded as checking in at polling places on Election Day than the number of ballots initially reported as cast. The office notified the Seminole County Board of Elections after spotting the gap.
The new tally changes the outcome of the race, which remained uncalled until the discovery. Democrat Harry James previously held a lead of 58 votes. With the inclusion of the previously missing ballots, incumbent Republican Gerald Greene now leads by 262 votes.
The Secretary of State’s office has set a deadline for Monday for the county to certify its election results. Brad Raffensperger’s team is investigating how the memory card was overlooked and whether required election procedures were followed. The agency also aims to determine what corrective measures are necessary to prevent similar incidents in future elections.
The Seminole County Board of Elections had not responded to requests for comment as of Friday afternoon. The investigation focuses on the specific oversight that allowed the data to remain unprocessed until the post-election review.
