One SUV was completely totaled on the right side in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 105 in Los Angeles on Monday morning.

Darryl McDaniels, a member of the hip-hop group Run-DMC, was a passenger in the vehicle. The California Highway Patrol received an emergency call at approximately 11:43 a.m. regarding the accident, which involved the SUV and a garbage truck.

Witnesses using the Citizen Los Angeles app captured footage of the scene. The video shows McDaniels speaking with members of the Los Angeles Fire Department upon their arrival. At one point, he smiled at the person recording the incident. Reports from the app indicated that no one in the vehicle sustained injuries.

The incident was resolved once the damaged SUV was towed from the highway. Sources familiar with the event stated that McDaniels and all other occupants of the car were unharmed.

The crash occurred on the same date as the 24th anniversary of the murder of Run-DMC member Jam Master Jay. Jay was killed on October 30, 2002. His death remained unsolved for more than two decades.

In 2024, a jury convicted Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington for the crime. A judge overturned Jordan's conviction in 2025, and the legal proceedings continue. In April of this year, Jay Bryant pleaded guilty. He admitted to letting the killers into Jay's studio on the night of the murder.

McDaniels is the surviving member of Run-DMC. The group was a pioneering force in hip-hop music. The collision took place in Los Angeles, where the rapper is based.
