BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers defeated Minnesota 23-16 in overtime on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The victory extends Indiana's streak against unranked opponents to 29 games, the longest active run in the nation. The result gives the Hoosiers a 7-0 record on the season.
The game ended in a low-scoring tie that required an extra period. With under 20 seconds remaining in regulation, Minnesota kicked a 60-yard field goal to level the score. Paddy McAteer then replaced Nico Radicic at the line of scrimmage. Radicic had missed two previous attempts. McAteer kicked a 60-yard field goal as time expired to force overtime.
Grant Wilson entered the game after starting quarterback Josh Hoover left the contest with an injury while trailing by three points at halftime. On the first play of the extra period, Wilson threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Becker. The score proved decisive. The Hoosiers defense held Minnesota out of the end zone for the rest of the game.
Becker finished with eight receptions for 149 yards and the winning touchdown. He also made a sideline catch that set up the regulation-tying kick. Running back Lee Beebe Jr. carried the ball 15 times for 84 yards. Hoover completed 8 of 19 passes for 119 yards, one touchdown, and one interception before leaving. Wilson completed 9 of 17 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown.
The team will take a one-week break before hosting the University of Southern California on Saturday, Nov. 14. USC holds a 6-2 record.
