The No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers 23-16 in overtime on Saturday in Bloomington. The victory extends Indiana's winning streak against unranked teams to 29 games, a mark that leads all of college football.
The two teams exchanged 60-yard field goals in the final 20 seconds of regulation to force extra time. Senior kicker Paddy McAteer kicked the decisive kick as the clock hit zero. He had replaced fellow senior Nico Radicic, who missed two attempts earlier in the game.
Backup quarterback Grant Wilson threw the game-winning score on the first play of overtime. He connected with receiver Charlie Becker for a 25-yard touchdown. Wilson entered the game after starter Josh Hoover left with an injury while the Hoosiers trailed by three points at the half.
Becker finished the day leading the offense with eight catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. He also secured a sideline catch that helped set up the regulation-tying field goal. Running back Lee Beebe Jr. added 84 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Hoover completed eight of 19 passes for 119 yards with one touchdown and one interception before exiting. Wilson completed nine of 17 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown after taking over. The Indiana defense held Minnesota out of the end zone in overtime to seal the seventh win of the season.
The Hoosiers have a week off before they host 6-2 USC on Saturday, Nov. 14.
