The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana announced on Monday that Jacquez “Joc” Brown, 31, of Chicago, has been convicted of federal crimes related to child sex trafficking. A federal jury returned the verdict on Oct. 15 after a three-day trial.

Brown was found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor, sexual exploitation of a child, and three counts of distribution of child sexual abuse material. The case stemmed from events that began in late 2022 in Vigo County.

Court documents indicate that on Dec. 14, 2022, Vigo County 911 received an emergency text message from the Super 8 Motel in Terre Haute. The message reported that a 15-year-old girl was being prostituted by a 28-year-old man, later identified as Brown. Terre Haute Police Department officers responded to the motel and found the girl in a room with Brown.

Police determined during their investigation that Brown compelled the girl to perform commercial sex acts for his financial benefit. He also took a sexually explicit photograph of her during the encounter and sent it to numerous individuals to encourage them to pay for sex with the girl.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Terre Haute Police Department. Assistant U.S. attorneys Carolyn Haney and MaryAnn Mindrum handled the prosecution. Brown will be sentenced at a later date.
