45 years after the original run, footage from David Bowie’s 1978 tour will premiere at Uber Arena in Berlin on February 14, 2027. The production, titled Stage, is scheduled to debut during the 77th Berlin International Film Festival.
The material originates from Bowie’s Isolar II World Tour. Filmmaker Brett Morgen discovered the archival clips while working on his 2022 documentary, Moonage Daydream. The footage captures the singer performing music associated with his influential Berlin era. The David Bowie Estate collaborated on the development of the new project.
Stage is not a traditional concert film. The production combines large screens, transparent LED displays, surround sound, and theatrical lighting. The goal is to create an immersive environment for the audience. The team aims to present the original live performances without using a hologram or artificial intelligence recreations of the singer.
The project will feature previously unseen material restored with modern audiovisual technology. It offers a direct look at the performances from that specific period in Bowie’s career. The Berlin debut marks the first public screening of this specific arrangement of archival content.
Following the opening at Uber Arena, the experience is expected to travel internationally. The tour will offer fans and new listeners access to the restored footage. The schedule for subsequent dates has not been fully detailed in the initial announcement.
The premiere date is set for mid-February 2027. The production team will utilize the specific technological setup described in the project materials. The focus remains on presenting the original 1978 performances in a new format.
