Spring-Ford field hockey lost its league title to Boyertown the previous week, but the team quickly refocused its attention on the postseason. The No. 5 seed Rams defeated No. 12 Springfield-Delco 4-0 on Wednesday night at Coach McNelly Stadium in Royersford, securing a spot in the district quarterfinals.
The game remained scoreless until midway through the second quarter, when senior Elise Reagan converted a penalty stroke with 7:16 remaining in the period. She added a second goal exactly one minute later using stick work to beat the defense and placing a low shot in the corner. Addie Striffler scored the third goal ninety seconds after Reagan's first two, capitalizing on a corner kick that created space in the circle.
Reagan completed her hat trick six minutes into the second half on another corner. The goal gave the UMass-Amherst recruit 26 for the season. She credited her teammate Kaia Pence for chasing down a loose ball that led to the initial penalty stroke, noting that Pence did not give up on the play.
Spring-Ford goalie Norah Kirsch, a committed player for Northwestern University, recorded seven saves to earn her eighth shutout of the year. Kirsch described the strategy as holding opponents off the board to prevent momentum shifts. She noted that the team plays clean and strong to limit the room available to the opposition.
Head coach Jennie Anderson praised the leadership provided by Reagan and Kirsch during their final season as seniors. Anderson stated that Kirsch directs the defense like an additional coach, while Reagan's ability to finish plays is unmatched. She emphasized that the team needed these players to step up in a physical contest.
Springfield-Delco finished the season with a 15-5 record. Seven seniors played in their final game, including goalie Riley McGowan, who made six saves. The Cougars had been one of the most physical teams Spring-Ford faced this year.
The Rams will face No. 13 CB South in the quarterfinals at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Coach McNelly Stadium. CB South advanced after defeating No. 4 CB West. District One has seven bids to the PIAA Tournament, meaning all but one of the quarterfinalists will continue their seasons.
Reagan described the team as gritty and unified, noting that they know what they have to do and do not stop. Kirsch added that the group has strong togetherness, with only 33 players total and eight seniors, creating no separation between class years.
