San Francisco. On November 3, 1991, 300,000 people gathered at Golden Gate Park for a tribute concert honoring Bill Graham, the legendary West Coast concert promoter who had died just one week earlier. The event brought together major acts in the rock genre to commemorate Graham’s career.
The lineup included Santana, the Grateful Dead, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and Journey. For the California rock band Journey, the performance represented their first reunion on stage since 1987. It also served as the final time singer Steve Perry performed with the group, marking a distinct chapter in the band’s history.
Other events recorded on November 3 include a 2018 festival in San Diego hosted by Deftones. The band launched its inaugural Dia de Los Deftones festival that day, which blended live music with Day of the Dead traditions. Participants were encouraged to dress as skeletons for the occasion.
In 2015, the Foo Fighters played a concert in Cesena, Italy. This performance occurred months after more than 1,000 local musicians played the song Learn to Fly to encourage the band to visit the city. The same day in 1992 saw the simultaneous release of two albums: Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith and the debut record from Rage Against the Machine.
The date also marks the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and Rage Against the Machine were inducted during the event. While the members of Rage Against the Machine did not perform due to differing views on the Hall, guitarist Tom Morello delivered the acceptance speech on their behalf.
