Jay Michaels of B105.7 radio purchased two bags of peanut butter kisses for approximately $13 after failing to find the candy in local stores. The purchase came after a day spent visiting 15 different retail locations across the region.
Michaels, who was battling a cold and losing his voice, told listeners in a new video that he visited five Walmarts, five Dollar Trees, and five Dollar Generals without success. He turned to Amazon when the physical hunt failed, noting that the online bags were smaller than he remembered.
The host called the treat his favorite Halloween candy despite its poor reputation. “This candy is number three on the top 10 most hated Halloween candies,” Michaels said. “It happens to be my favorite Halloween candy.”
Peanut butter kisses frequently appear in annual lists of the worst Halloween candy. CandyStore.com has ranked them in the bottom five, placing them near wax cola bottles and Necco Wafers. Mental Floss has described the item as a confectionery disaster so unpopular that some people have never heard of it.
The candy consists of chewy, peanut butter-flavored taffy wrapped in orange and black wax paper. Its limited shelf presence may explain why fans often need to order them online to secure a bag for the holiday.
