Purdue football will not play Notre Dame in the 2027 season.

The Boilermakers announced Tuesday that a road game at West Virginia replaces the previously scheduled trip to South Bend. This move effectively pauses the in-state rivalry series, which was originally planned to continue through 2028.

Tommy McClelland, Purdue’s vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics, stated in a release that the teams will reevaluate the matchup for future schedules. He noted that the two schools have played 90 times in program history.

Notre Dame has since added a home-and-home series with Illinois. This addition leaves Purdue with an open non-conference date for its 2028 schedule. The date for the 2027 game against West Virginia has not yet been determined.

Purdue will also face UAlbany and Miami (Ohio) during the 2027 non-conference slate. The Boilermakers last hosted the Fighting Irish in Ross-Ade Stadium at the end of September, losing 49-10.

Notre Dame has won every game against Purdue since 2008. The rivalry began in 1896 when Purdue won 28-22 in South Bend. Notre Dame holds a 60-25-2 all-time record against Purdue.
