In-person early voters submitted 405,786 ballots in Indiana one week before the 2026 midterm election.

This figure represents a one-third increase from the 296,792 in-person ballots cast at the same point in 2022. Statewide, a total of 476,802 early ballots had been submitted by this date in 2026. That count is 61,345 higher than the 415,547 early ballots recorded at the equivalent time before the 2022 election.

Marion County data reflects these statewide shifts. Residents in the county submitted 13,145 more early votes than they did in 2022. In-person voting in Indianapolis nearly doubled, rising from 20,789 ballots in 2022 to 40,867 ballots in 2026.

Mail-in voting trends moved in the opposite direction. Statewide mail-in ballots dropped by more than 43 percent compared to 2022. At this point in the 2022 cycle, 113,808 ballots were mailed. In 2026, that number stands at 64,721. Marion County saw a similar decline, with mail-in voting down over 41 percent from the 2022 figures.

The 2026 midterm election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters can find ballot information at WFYI’s 2026 Voter Guide. Details on absentee voting are available at vote.indy.gov.
