LOS ANGELES: Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium. The announcement was made during halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.

The announcement followed a week of speculation. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had declined to give a definitive answer at a recent league meeting.

Jay-Z's performance comes as he finishes a 30th anniversary tour. The tour began with an appearance at the Roots Picnic in June. It included three sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium and dates in London and Paris. The tour ended at SoFi Stadium last week.

During those shows, he was joined by Beyoncé, Rihanna, Slick Rick, Pharrell, Eminem, Scarface, Fat Joe, Teyana Taylor, Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys, and Jeezy.

He will follow Kendrick Lamar, who played the 2025 halftime show, and Bad Bunny, who played the Super Bowl LX halftime show in 2026. Roc Nation has produced the halftime show since 2019. The partnership was renewed in 2024.

Goodell said in a statement, "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him."

Jay-Z said in a statement, "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."

The announcement video showed Jay-Z in a black-and-white setting, wearing a New York Yankees cap and seated in a stadium surrounded by 11 goats. The video played a clip of "Public Service Announcement" as a title read, "Goat's Out of the Bag."

Colin Kaepernick has criticized Jay-Z's involvement with the league. Kaepernick told NBC News in September, "You're serving the culture up to a bunch of racists and, two, they don't care about you. You're the music guy to them. They quite literally need a Black face, and have said as much."

Jay-Z addressed some of the criticism in a freestyle at Yankee Stadium in July. He rhymed, "They run out of characters, had to bring back up [Kaepernick] again.. I'm the one [the NFL] can't control."

Kaepernick denies signing a non-disparagement clause. Jay-Z has not responded to Kaepernick's book, which was released in September.
