Halloween weekend in Central Indiana will bring warmer than average temperatures, capping a month that has broken state records for sustained heat. Saturday highs are projected to reach the mid- to high-60s, keeping conditions mild for trick-or-treaters despite a small risk of precipitation.

October has recorded 26 days with temperatures in the 70s, just one short of the all-time state record of 27. Matt Eckhoff of the National Weather Service in Indianapolis noted that the persistence of this warmth is rare for this time of year. He described weeks of low 70s in late October as definitely unusual.

Eckhoff said the chance for rain on Saturday is slim, with only a few spotty showers possible. He estimated the probability of showers at 20 to 30 percent and noted that wind speeds will remain low. These factors combine to create a pleasant environment for outdoor activities, he said.

Conditions are expected to change as the month turns. Eckhoff forecasts a return to typical November weather patterns starting Sunday, with more wet but mild conditions. Temperatures are expected to drop to around 60 degrees and cooler, aligning with historical averages for the region.

Residents should also remember that Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday morning. Clocks will fall back one hour at that time.
